Medical technology mixed with art is another version of the blending of science and art. Discussed in the lecture video, human dissection was a very frequent phenomenon going back to the era of  the ancient egyptian's that fused anatomy with artistry. Direction allowed for knowledge and understanding bone structure and anatomical makeups that dissectionists had to be aware of when making their artistic incisions. Medical technology has progressed and is used everyday across the world in ways like: x-Rays, MRI's, and CT scans. The increase of use and progress in medical technology was a direct result of the increases progress and understanding if the human body, which is a form of art.

Personally, I believe the invention of prosthetics is a great example of combining medicine , technology, and art. Prosthetics relate to the field of medicine because they are used to replace certain body parts that are no longer functional. Also, the field of prosthetics relate to the field of technology because engineers are able to map out nerves in the body that send electrical brain signals and insert custom sensor in the prosthetic. They also relate to art because they have to be carefully designed in a way that fit and provide the person comfort.

  1. Hi Aaliyah,

I thought you made an interesting point about how prosthetic arms can also be viewed as art. Although, they serve the primary function of assisting an individual to perform basic physical functions, they are designed to be aesthetically pleasing, with the geometry, physical composition, and decoration carefully thought out and planned - just like any work of stereotypical art.

  2. I like your idea on how prosthetic and how it can be viewed as art. They do serve a major purpose in ligaments that are no longer functional and they help people do everyday activities.
